In a effort to provide the best Cardiac Care in Central Louisiana and continually improve patient treatment, the Research Department of CHRISTUS St.
Frances Cabrini Hospital participates in national studies as well as original research projects.
CathSource Enterprise
Provides clinical and financial outcomes on those patients undergoing procedures in the Cardiac Cath Lab and compares them to national data.
Datascope Benchmark, a Counterpulsation Outcomes Registry
Collects and reports data on patients that require placement of an Intra Aortic Balloon to improve the pumping ability of the heart. This data is analyzed, compared to like hospitals and a national data bank, then presented for internal use as a measure of current practices.
National Registry of Myocardial Infarction (NRMI)
The largest cross-sectional observational Acute Myocardial Infarction (AMI) database in the United States. Information is submitted on symptom presentation, treatment practices, and patient outcomes; it is then analyzed, organized, and returned to the hospital for internal evaluation of current practice patterns.
CRUSADE study
A multi-center Quality Improvement Initiative that analyzes treatment practices and management of high-risk patients experiencing Acute Coronary Syndromes (ACS) chest pain.
Optimize the management of high-risk patients with chest pain based on the American College of Cardiology (ACC) and American Heart Association (AHA) guidelines.
A randomized international study that compares adjunctive Glucose-Insulin-Potassium infusion verses conventional treatment regimes for patients experiencing an Acute Myocardial Infarction (AMI) and is also a candidate for reperfusion therapy (angioplasty, PTCA, stent placement, laser therapy, or thrombolytic therapy).
Demonstrates that a specific solution of Glucose, Potassium, and Insulin will significantly reduce the 30-day mortality rate of patients presenting with an AMI.
In addition to study participation, we have developed the Women's Heart Center. This Center is specifically designed to educate women about and assist women to identify heart disease risk factors.
